MSB's Juvenile National Cross Country Report

Congratulations to all our fabulous juveniles and their coaches who completed in the National Cross Country championships in Navan.

The club were hugely proud to have no less than 5 teams and 9 individual qualifiers! Well done to all ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

U11 Girls- Report Nick Lawlor

Our U11 girls arrived to Navan as the Dublin Champions and lived up to their billing in what was the their first Cross Country Nationals.

The MSB team was represented by Leah Lawlor, Charlotte Grimes, Lauren Oโ€™Reilly, Aoibheann Gardiner, Elle McAndrew and Feena Malone. With almost 200 kids on the start line, the first 150 metres were frantic as youโ€™d expect. The girls battled their hearts out, in what was a twisty, tight course to record an amazing team 4th place result. While they must missed out on a National Team podium, 4th place in a National event is a credit to their hard work and training.

Charlotte Grimes managed to bag herself a silver medal as part of the Dublin team too so overall a fantastic morning for our U11 girls, competing with the very best in the country.

U11 Boys - Report Gavin Howlin

Our U11 boys were the 2nd race of the day on Navan Racecourse, on a crisp, cold

December morning. This was the first time the boys were eligible for XC Nationals and they did us proud.

James Howlin, who was also representing Dublin, ran an amazing race finishing 4th, with the rest of the MSB boys, Aaron Lechleitner, Sam Heneghan, Cian Sherlock, Ruairรญ Drummond, Daire Oโ€™Mahony and Odhran Oโ€™Sullivan all comfortably completing the fast paced 1500m race and bringing to a close, what has been a fantastic 2023 XC season for the boys.

Well done also to Senan Kelly in his U13 race, running up a year, finishing 23rd on a tough 2500m course.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

U13 Girls - Report Kenny McAndrew

The girls under 13 Team took to the Nationalโ€™s today in Navan. The team was made up of Cara, Laoise, Annalise, Faye, Leah and Kate. The Uphill start did not faze the girls and they all got of to a good start, Cara was first home for MSB from the 2.5km course closely followed by the rest. All were very happy to have completed the race and are looking forward to competing in the indoors in six weeks time.

U15 Boys and Girls - Report Glenda Ryan

An impressive display by the U15 athletes was witnessed at the Uneven Cross Country National Championships in Navan. Despite the chilly yet sunny weather, the group of five U15 boys Matthew Keane, Ryan Mc Devitt (U14), Luke Costello, Dara Costello

Louis Hanbury and one girl, Alannah Keane, bravely tackled the challenging course.

The track, featuring a demanding start and finish with a steep climb, saw each athlete exerting maximum effort over the 3.5K distance, ending in strong finishes by all.

U17 Boys - Report Mark Mohan

Well done to our U17 Boys team competing in today's National Cross Country Championships in Navan. On a relatively dry and firm course the racing was hard and fast but our boys came through well to finish 8th in the National Club Team standings - a really good performance by our lads led by Seรกn O'Mara in 32nd place, followed by Ferdea Ward, Ronรกn Ward, Daire Macken and Peter Brennan. Super effort by our boys and the club is very proud to have these five good friends competing so strongly at this age level. Particular congrats to Sean who receives a gold medal for the Dublin Team in the County Team standings and a silver medal in the Provincial Team standings.

U19 Boys - Report Mark Woodger

Louie Woodger was in the last event of the day; the U19 5k. This was to be his last ever Juvenile event after an incredible 11 years. His first ever medal came in the Dublin cross country in his first ever race where he nabbed a Bronze in the U9 out in Tymon Park. 60+ Dublin medals in numerous different events later and numerous national medals from shot put to 1500m to 4x400m to cross country, he signed off today in a tough race with yet more medals claiming ninth place overall and two Golds for the county and provincial teams. Having already taken an U20 national Gold earlier this year the move to this level should go smoothly!
