St Stephen’s Day saw two fantastic hometown performances from Catriona Mullen and Caoimhe Burke. Catriona hit the roads of Cavan for the Cavan Christmas Dash 5k.
Her first Christmas as a mother to little Fionn, Catriona wasn’t putting the feet up! She took an early lead and led home the women’s field in an excellent 17.14, 36 seconds clear of 2nd place. With only a few weeks of training behind her, this is another performance that the unstoppable
Catriona can be proud of, and one that marks her return to competitive running (much to the fear of her competitors!) Full results can be found here https://www.myrunresults.com/events/cavan_christmas_5k_dash_2023/4946/results.
West of the country, Caoimhe Burke also wasn’t resting on her laurels despite a busy Christmas Day with four little ones (not including Tim) to entertain! The infamous Fields of Athenry 10k, which always attracts a top field, saw Caoimhe grapple for 3rd position with Galway AC’s Catherine Thornton before finishing a brilliant 4th with a PB of 37.18, and claiming one of the much coveted trophies in the process. A super end to a super season for this relentless athlete! Full results can be found here http://www.redtagtiming.com/
MSB stalwart Kieran Brennan, fresh into a new Masters age category, also represented MSB in Athenry. Kieran capped off a great comeback year with a terrific sub 40 minute 10K time of 38:49.
Well done to all of our competitors flying the MSB flag!
