Loss of Paul "Macker" McCreevy
Paul "Macker" McCreevy passed away 27th March 2012.
Macker was a member of the old St Brigids Athletic Club. A Blanchardstown local, he made history when the junior men's team captured their only National club title, the Inter-Club Cross Country, on that famous day, 24th February 1985 in Killenaule. It was no surprise that Thomas O'Gara won the individual title for St Brigids but the club team following him in made up of Macker 18th, Mick Fitzgerald 20th and James Finnegan 75th combining to score 114 pts, to edge out Finn Valley 116pts and Limerick 118 was unexpected but all the more sweeter.
Macker attended St Brigids national school, followed by Coolmine Community school. His running achievements got him a scholarship to Lamar University in Texas. While there he got on well with a Swedish athlete Jonas Lundstrom and it was through Jonas he met his future wife Danijela. They settled down in Sweden with their son Cian. Over 3 years ago just when the future was beginning to look so bright, Macker with the constant support and love of Danijela and Cian started his battle against lung cancer an illness that would eventually get the better of him.
"Macker, your Ma didn't have to wait too long for you to join her along with your Da and brother Gerry in what can only be a better place. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Danijela, Cian, your brothers John and Hughie, sisters Rita and Mary, Danijela's parents and all the extended family. We'll all miss you so much"
